THE SOCIAL TEAHOUSE IN VARNA
Tea with a cause
At the Social Teahouse, we believe that everyone has the right to lead a fair and dignified life, and the lack of parental care and opportunities for growth should not deprive anyone of this right.
Often children who have grown up without parents are subject to physical, sexual and psychological abuse, and for girls, this easily manifests itself in unhealthy behaviour in partner choice, drug abuse, and involvement in human trafficking. Unfortunately, this happens much earlier than people suspect and timely support in a good environment can really make all the difference to a person’s life.
The Teahouse is a space for tea and herbal drinks, events, workshops, but most of all it is the first place of work for young people who have grown up in residential care. Our aim is to support young people from troubled social and/or family backgrounds, creating opportunities for independent living and giving them the tools to build themselves personally and professionally. That’s what we do at the Teahouse- we teach healthy habits, job skills, support with vocational courses, car license courses, school completion assistance, and sometimes we even pay health insurance for young mothers, when we wish we could pay more university fees.
Last year there were 8 girls in our mentorship program. This year we aim to get 5 more into mentoring and we think International Women’s Day is a good time for us all to think about our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters. But also to clearly realize that there are girls who live without their mothers, don’t know their grandmothers and are separated from their sisters. This loss can hardly be replaced. Our mentorship program exists to support the personal and professional development of girls to have a fulfilling March 8th as independent, happy women who contribute to their community.
To get there, we need your help.
